I can't resist pointing out that today is the festival of Julian of Norwich, mystic and writer of genius (and one of the earliest named English women authors to boot)

Hm: if only I knew how to do animated icons; that would make a good one.

Hurrah for Julian! She's one of my favorite female authors, though she's even better when read next to Margery. Thanks for pointing out that it was her day, you religious maniac, you. ;)

She's a much better theologian than Margery, though. (Actually, if there was any justice, it would be Julian who was declared a Doctor of the Church, rather than Catherine. Or both, of course, but that's probably too much to hope for, given the RC attitude to women...)

I think Julian may also be in line for a small prize as Sanest Mediaeval Mystic. Mechthild would probably be runner up, but she's a bit too neurotic about sex to calim outright victory.
