Grrrr.

Of course, since both leaks clearly came from someone on the conservative wing who wanted to make mischief, it's premature to decide that It's All Rowan's Fault - though I see Changing Attitudes already has.

But still, grr. It would be a great shame, on more than one level, if a man of Fr Jeffrey John's calibre remains the best bishop we never had (and God knows the C of E desperately needs good bishops).

ETA: you know what I said about not reading comments on CiF? It also applies to the Torygraph.

Being admittedly biased, my issue with ++Rowan at this point is that I have given him so MANY chances, and he has stuffed them all up.

OT - I thought Starbridge was Salisbury? That looks like Winchester to me.

I'm relatively sure it's actually a sketch of York(?) TBH I just wanted a lovely picture of a Cathedral. Not being British (and not having been to the UK until this past Christmas) I have to admit I didn't really care... which probably makes me terribly Colonial (or something.) ~sheepish grin~

Ah yes, could be York. (Which would work rather nicely as Starbridge, actually, given some of the hair-raising tales I've heard from my best friend, who is an ex-chorister.)

I seem to have Starbridge=Salisbury so fixed in my mind that seeing your icon was akin to seeing a photo of X, who is going to play Y in the film of your favourite book, and thinking 'What? Surely Y is a brunette!' or whatever. But none the worse for that!

I'm fairly biased on this one too, although for different reasons - but the leaks both came from a sufficiently biased source that I'm not sure we know anything about what actually happened. And we probably never will.

It's a damn shame, though, and not at all fair on Fr Jeffrey or his partner, neither of whom deserve any of this.

I'm discovering how many "stuff-ups" are actually the news media failing the understand what's going on.

I know someone who works for him, and who has given us the bigger picture a few times, and too often it's someone breaching confidentiality rules in the process, such that if RW comments, then he's broken the rules, and if he doesn't he's damned. Or similar rule-breaking.

The ABC has not covered himself in glory at this point, but I'm almost wondering if the whole thing was made up to embarrass him and distract from the women bishops thing that is coming up in Synod (that my WATCH contact has emailed about encouraging emails to local synod members, that I haven't done yet... argh.)

I'm certainly pretty sure the sequence of leaks were intended to embarrass the ABC and generally muddy the waters...

Mind you, at the moment I mostly want to punch someone. I'm just not sure who.
