May. 16th, 2006 12:34 pmAre the makers of the Da Vinci Code trying to make their murderous monk resemble Anakin Skywalker in 'on-the-cusp-of-going-Sith' mode?

Oh well. It continues the book/film's grand tradition of nicking (not very original) ideas from all over, and anyway, I suspect that the Jedi knights may be a more accurate portrait of religious life (They're a bit like a Buddhist Teutonic Order, and good heavens, that's a scary thought).

Date: 2006-05-17 08:44 am (UTC)I confess that what puzzles me about the Da Vinci Code (which I haven’t read, except for sufficient in a bookshop to appreciate the rollicking read qualities that have assured its commercial success) is why the media seems to be treating as new and revolutionary various bonkers ideas that have at least been around long enough to have been roundly spoofed by Umberto Eco twenty years ago. I know enough not to expect journalists to be bothered to look up history or theology, but you'd think they'd have a passing familiarity with recent bestseller lists.
