Today I discovered that 'anti-aging shampoo' is, apparently, a thing, but it is a thing that baffles me (no, it's not a euphemism for wash-in hair dye, which would be comparatively logical).

I totally assumed it was wash-in hair dye! If not, what is it?

I don't know! The sample I had pressed on me also describes itself as 'moisturising for dry hair', which it seems to have done a reasonable job on, but it is otherwise entirely vague....

Does it anti-age your... scalp? Does it make your hair thicker and more lustrous, which is what I thought every single shampoo claimed to do anyway? I am also very confused!

It remains mysterious! It also says it moisturises, which it seems to have done a reasonable job of, but the packaging seemed to imply that was a separate claim....

I have literally no idea. To be honest, I think my hair's the youngest looking part of me!

Whenever I am at my mum's and therefore see TV adverts, there's this one for a German shampoo which is especially popular, whispers the model, "with women over...shh...forty." Truly the Age That Dare Not Speak Its Name. I think it has caffeine extracts or something. You probably can absorb caffeine through your scalp, but I'm still not sure what it's supposed to do for your hair.

Considering I have been enthusing about hitting 40 to women worried about turning 25 or 30, this is hilarious.

I have, in fact, broken the first rule of 40-something club, which is telling the younger generation “you no longer give a flying fuck and It. Is. Amazing.”

Plantur 39, apparently, I Googled 'german caffeine shampoo in a green bottle' to get this result; soon I will be going into the library and asking for a book with a blue cover...I think it's by a woman?

As they were trying to sell it to a Gen X/ Millenial cusp person here, I think the scam may be wider in scope than you think. Or else Holy Week and Easter really aged me....
