There is a pious Catholic out there who runs a blog (www.happysaints.com) dedicated to chibi-ish pictures of the saints (I think the idea is that they're for use in catechesis with children, but they're a bit too sugary for my taste).

Today's saint of the day is S. Dominic Savio, but he appears to be being played by the Eleventh Doctor...

I seem to remember being dealt that line. Didn't go down too well with a bunch of cynical 11-year-olds whose favourite religious readings was the more gruesome saints' stories!

Yes, I can't help feeling a lot of kids would prefer the more gruesome renderings!

I'm now considering a Gashlycrumb Tinies version of the saints.

A is for Agnes, stabbed in the throat;
B is for Becket, killed for a king;
C is for Catherine, spiked on her wheel;

I did not know that I needed this in my life, but I apparently do. I mean, my tastes in saints runs towards baffling and gruesome, but I know a few people I can torment with these. Catherine of Siena looks far too happy about her crown of thorns.

She really does. And the commentary just makes me go Father Ted.

"Here, Catherine, I went to Rome and I got you a lovely stigmata!"

"Ah, Pope, sure you shouldn't have. I could have knitted one myself. But thank you, it's beautiful!"
