Well, that was different. I've never had chopsticks at formal hall before. Given the incompetence with which I use them and the cost of dry-cleaning a gown, it's probably just as well that this doesn't often happen.

I take it they don't give you backup cutlery if you ask for it?

Sounds like formal dinners are some kind of trial by ordeal.
