Sep. 18th, 2006 09:44 amAm very depressed by the results of the state elections in Mecklenburg, though I'm not really surprised after what I saw when I was over there last month. 7% for the Neo-Nazis is very bad news. They really seem to have smartened up their electoral tactics - and, by organising lots of community events (er, unless you're Turkish or the like, but there aren't that many immigrants in rural Meck-Pomm), have given people the impression that they're the only party that cares anything for the people.

Re: Waaaaah!
Date: 2006-09-18 04:14 pm (UTC)That's exactly what I am hoping as well.
A few days ago, there was a short article in the Süddeutsche Zeitung, covering the political "achievements" of those right-wing extremist parties that had been voted into municipal councils and regional Parliaments. They didn't seem to get much done, as many of the candidates who ran for office are apparently polemical trouble-makers with no previous political record. I fervently pray that this will be the case in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, too.
It's all so very depressing.
