Another anon. ballad.
Apr. 17th, 2010 12:25 pmOut frae the toun o’ Glesca,
The fecht lost o’ Langside,
Queen Mary rade to Solway,
A long an’ dulefule ride.
She bade farewell to Scotland,
Och, weary fa’ the day
She crossed the sluggish water,
An’ took the English way.
She lippened on a promise
Gien by ane fause an’ sly,
The sleekit Queen o’ England
Wha ettlet her to die.
The bonny Queen o’ Scotland
Rade oot frae Glesca toun;
Few were there than, to help her,
Mony to ding her doun.
Lang was the road she traivell’t,
Faur ayont Solway’s tide
Ayont a darker river
The end lay o’ her ride.
