Aug. 30th, 2006 10:56 amToday the Church of England commemorates John Bunyan, author of Pilgrim's Progress, enricher of the spiritual life of English readers for many generations and, whether or not you are Christian, of the English language. I'm not at all sure what Bunyan would have made of this, but the collect appointed is rather nice, anyway.
God of peace,
who called your servant John Bunyan
to be valiant for truth:
grant that as strangers and pilgrims
we may at the last rejoice with all Christian people
in your heavenly city;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
