I don't go in for scathing reviews of shows I generally like much, but really!

Rusty. Please. Leave the meta-with-fandom-injokes to the fanficcers, can't you?

The first fifteen minutes, or so, were amusing - an imaginative fictional portrayal of fandom as it would be if the object of our obsession was real. However, it was plain that if they were going to get a plot out of it, there was really only one (rather silly) direction they could go it. Impressively, they made it sillier than I was expecting, just not in a good way.

Good sides: well, I suppose you have to give them points for trying to do something non-formulaic. Trouble was, it was no longer recognisable as Who.

Oh, and Jackie was good, particularly once she snapped out of Seductive Harpy mode. Nice portrayal of the emotions of the 'left behind' there.

The alien was embarrassingly bad. I can see the metaphor that was supposed to be in there - but it was too obvious, and the execution was too farcical. (Put it this way, it made one nostalgic for 'Aliens of London'). Leaving out the joke about sex at the end, which was just cringe-making.

And stop hinting that Rose is going to die! We get it, all right?

Above all: it isn't Doctor Who without the Doctor. There's a reason K9 and company didn't work. Please, do something better next week...

(Almost worth registering for the Outpost Gallifrey forums, but I think I might go blind from the wank...)

Yes, agreed. This was pure fanfic; even to the bit where the writer centralises characters other than the main ones. If a ficcer did it, you could say they were using canon as a jump-off point to explore some issue of their own. But this IS canon.

The monster was totally cringeworthy. Frankly The End can't come soon enough. They should really get in a new script writer. Russell's had his say now; inspiration is leaking away.

I liked it very much until the monster showed up... Urgh.

But do you really think that Rose is going to die? I find it interesting that Elton saw the Doctor on the night his mother died. Maybe this is a bit more subtle foreshadowing. Or Jackie and Rose are both going to jump the shark.
