So - given that Rose is leaving (and given the 'you will die in battle' line last week from the Beast, I wonder if she isn't going to die), who would you like to replace her?

I smypathise with the person over at the Guardian blog who wanted the Brigadier back, but that's obviously not going to happen (though a re-appearance a la Sarah Jane would be super - they've probably exhausted that avenue, though, and it shouldn't turn into a self-indulgent cameo collection).

I think the introduction of a character who turns out to be Ian and Barbara's daughter would be fun... (and given that One seemed unable to remember Ian's surname, it could take him a while to catch on.) Not that I think that's likely to happen, and it's probably more a fan-fic idea.

So: any thoughts on actors/ actresses? And I do think it might be worth having two regulars.

I'd like to suggest Reinette. He's in lurve with her already; AND in Real life also. Then they can have a series together; both leave; and we can have a clear playing field for No. 11 + Companion (to be played by Johnny Depp and Orli Bloom).

(I gather there's beginning to a an anti-Russell-Davis backlash amongst the cognoscenti - ie. Nostalgia-LJ; and have to admit that the writing and plots are a bit ... lacking this season).

On another topic, oh Expert in All Things Oxfordian: when do this season's finalists graduate, and are the lists made public? And when/where does the ceremony(ies?)take place?

I can't decide myself whether the plots really have been worse this season, or whether it's just that the novelty has worn off. I mean, the epis last year definitely weren't all the 'Empty Child' standard'.

I think it is simply the novelty that has worn off, combined with a case of inconsistent characterization for Rose -- and too much meta-analysis by fandom. Some things are not meant to be taken too seriously, IMHO. Doctor Who is definitely among them.

I didn't like New Earth at all, and the Cybermen two-parter seemed rather clunky to me when I was re-watching bits of it. However, Tooth and Claw and The Idiot's Lantern were decent, albeit formulaic entertainment. And School Reunion, The Girl in the Fireplace as well as the last two-parter were ranging from really good to brilliant.

Last year, we got Dalek or The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances -- but why does no one mention AoL/WWW3 anymore? Or The Long Game, which I personally hate with the fiery passion of a thousand burning suns?

And, no, the scripts for Old Who weren't that much better, from what I have seen so far. (Please ignore the heretical newbie fan, and don't burn me at the stake for this.) Someone I can't remember summed it up in this one fantastic line: The golden age of 'Doctor Who' is mythical and non-existent. Or twelve. :D

Sorry for spamming your LJ, by the way. You can probably tell that I'm waiting for a DL to finish.

There was a marvellous suggestion somewhere-or-other on the 'net for Susan played by Stephanie Cole. I know very little about Susan, but Stephanie Cole would be a fantastic companion!

So you heard about That One Spoiler. I actually wanted to ask you this very question but didn't dare to, out of fear of ruining the season finale for you...

I've got not thoughts on actors or actresses whatsoever as I'm not familiar enough with British TV. Well, if RTD has to go through a list of people he's already worked with again, I'd like to see Laura Fraser, please.

However, for variety's sake, I would want not to get a generic teenage girl again. It would be nice to have a (straight) guy in his twenties onboard, or a scientist/bookish-scholarly person of any gender, or a slightly older woman (à la the recently deceased Mrs Moore, or Ida Scott, the possible space lesbian).

And I'd bet that Rose won't die. Far too obvious.

But perhaps I'm only in denial as she was my first companion; and I usually get so ridiculously attached to fictional characters anyway, even to those who are in need of a good slap from time to time. Guess I should have a few tissues at hand, just in case I'm wrong.
