Happy Candlemas!
Feb. 2nd, 2006 04:20 pmOtherwise known as the Feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
At Oriel, this is a cue for festive evensong with... you guessed it. Candles. Lots and lots of candles.
Followed by drinks in the SCR and the Gaudy, i.e. a ridiculously large dinner, followed by port (though I might skip the port, since I'm teaching early tomorrow morning)
This makes me happy. (It also makes me wonder if Oriel will ever really leave the 1920s, but I don't mind when it comes to such traditions).
In other news, I have a 1529 Dominican missal to read, in search of info about the cult of S.S. Dominic and Peter Martyr. It still looks brand new and has very jolly woodcuts and headings done in red ink.
This also makes me happy, though the admittedly pretty Gothic type is bound to make my eyes hurt before too long. Oh well, I've got to go help set up for the college service before long, so I don't suppose I'll go blind yet awhile.
Oh, and I rashly claimed the Lorelei in the Omniocular February challenge, on the basis that I've been there. Though it really does look very Muggle these days - but the folklore round there is interesting (plus it's near the Drachenfels, and I like dragons).
Ah - the beginnings of a plot stir...

Date: 2006-02-03 04:25 pm (UTC)I am happy to report that I found no anonymous letters. I got some grammar marking, though, which may be nearly as bad....
