I feel that I ought to point out to [livejournal.com profile] mina_de_malfois, and all her admirers, that today is the feast of the patron saint of her college, St Scholastica. Which out to be an excuse for a martini, or something...

On another note entirely, I have been having unregenerate fun with the create your own Harlequin romance plot!

Peter, adventurer and captain of the infamous ship Calypso and a renowned seducer of women, has just walked into the one tavern in all of the unknown reaches of Mars he should have avoided. For Harriet, his sworn enemy, is the brainy owner—and she has vengeance on her mind.

But before she can take her feisty revenge, she is captured by this rogue's kiss. Her only chance for retribution is to put her career as an award-winning writer on hold and stow away on his ship for a passionate adventure that will either kill them—or bring them together once and for all!

She didn't know which was more dangerous....

....the case that had brought shy Hermione to Paris, the City of Lights, or the six-foot-three military man, who was far too sexy for anyone's good. Everything about Ron screamed Warning! Danger! So why was Hermione—an international jet-setter—letting her guard down with the handsome heartbreaker?

Ron didn't think he'd ever know the truth about his father's death—until the fiery showed up. Hermione was willing to risk her life to uncover the truth.

Ron had to show her he, too, could take some risks. Because he'd found the one woman who could touch his heart...and he wasn't about to let her go....

Or even

No one knew what Aragorn looked like, but they'd heard the rumors all across the Australian Outback. How he'd been broken, even scarred, being cowboy. How he never showed his face...until the day he took an overwhelming interest in one very special glamorous socialite.

Arwen would have been a serial killer's next victim if not for Aragorn. The rescue gave her a glimpse into his world of shadows—yet the hopelessly romantic woman dared to want more. To really know if the innocent passion between them was real. They would have to come face-to-face if the killer was to be caught—and Aragorn could only conceal his body from Arwen for so long....

He could only conceal his body for so long... *head-desk* What was he doing, wearing a burqa? Or perhaps it's his body only in the sense of 'a body in his possession', and he's actually the killer?

OK; back to work now!

NASCAR and Darcy - I must be stupid to not have seen that obvious connection. It has speed, it has thrill, it has... grease...

it could be they were aiming for a more simple plot and fused Darcy and Wickham into one person.

I'm not totally convinced that would be the best way to go, though...

I'm glad to see that someone else's mind ran in the same direction as mine:

The second one: Methinks Ron has gotten his hands on some patented daydream charms...

I managed to produce a synopsis to a seriously cracked-out Lily/Snape genderswitch AU:

The moment adventurer Lily returns to the unknown reaches of Mars and sees the black-haired, green-eyed boy, his faith is shattered. He knows the child is his late brother's son. But why has the boy been kept a secret? He demands answers from the boy's adoptive mom, Severus. But the brainy award-winning writer isn't forthcoming. And once Lily learns the truth behind the birth, he understands. Especially when some family matters get more than complicated. Lily knows he just has to hang on to tight to this shy gal and keep showing her that his wish is true-blue: to be a daddy—and husband—for keeps.

Happy St. Scholastica's Day!

That's a useful feast day to know, I suppose. I celebrated by writing essays on the train, being in class, being exhausted, being in more class, reading Benedict Anderson on the train home... ;-)

The computer-generated romance plots are strangely brilliant.

I just tried it myself. Really, strangely brilliant. I think I'd like to be an adventurer on Mars during the Great Depression... ;-)
