End of an auld sang

So the decision has been made: St Hildas is going mixed.

I will miss the tradition of people going past in punts pointing it out as a 'girls' college', and the loud cry of 'WOMEN'S' from the St Hilda's lawn.

On the other hand, since S. Hilda presided over a double monastery, one could argue that it's quite appropriate. Nevertheless, my inner Sentimental Oxonian is sad to see one more peculiarity go (though as my own institution was formerly a bastion of masculine exclusivity, I suppose it's a bit hypocritical of me...)

Ah well. Modern times! Thanks for mentioning this anyway, because it came up in the pub quiz tonight (not that it was enough). :)

I agree. I am feeling very sentimental, and very sad that Hilda's will no longer be co-ed. I hate to see these kind of traditions bite the dust. :(
