Sadly, his knowledge of the great city of Chicago is truly assy in the first volumes, but gets better.

There are some outright howlers like messing up the location of my beloved alma mater (we all WISH it were in Lincoln Park instead of Hyde Park), and then things like the warehouses in I think it was Fool Moon that would never have been in that part of the city (far too dense for it), and a general feel that the layout of things isn't quite right (where is Michael's house supposed to be? where can you get an apartment like that?). That said, it's really improved with some on-site research, and I admire his skill at constructing a cracking plot and some serious continuity hints and realization.
