Well, like I said, he's a clever man and some of his theological work is impressive. But he also reminds me increasingly why I'm happy not to be RC....

Hey, actually, whenever I am in Oxford and attend an Evensong (this for the aesthetic pleasure rather than for any religious reason, I'm afraid), I think I might become a High Church Anglican (or Episcopalian) yet. Almost like being a Catholic, but without having to *headdesk* at what the Pope has done or said again. Although there's still the Archbishop of Canterbury to consider...

Well, there are plenty of things about the C of E that make me *headdesk* (pretty much everything that emanates from Forward in Faith, or 'Backwards in Fear' as I'm afraid I think of them, or from GAFCON), but the ABC is not quite in the same position as the Pope - actually, it's a rotten job; lots of responsibility, but very little actual power. I like what I know of Rowan Williams - I sometimes wish he would be louder about his own convictions on certain matters, but he's in a difficult position.

Heh. Well, while some people we know would doubtless disagree, I think that's perfectly OK. If it speaks to you in some way, then that's a good thing. And I don't see why one should assume that God can't speak to people through their aesthetic sense - after all, human beings can't be divided up into a 'spiritual' and a 'non-spiritual' bit.
