I can has first edition of "The Road Goes Ever On", the Donald Swann Tolkien song cycle, with dust jacket, and a very beautiful book.

Also, the AHRC have now agreed that they ought to start paying me again. Once college had notified them that I'm registered.... Why is nothing straightforward? Still, at least I can be sure I will get money at some point, even if not for another month :(

OK, I probably shouldn't be buying rare-ish books in these circumstances, but I tend to agree with Erasmus about spending priorities....

Being paid is definitely good. I feel slightly guilty for being happy that the exchange rate has now tilted back in favour of the dollar, since my loan cheques are probably going to appear in the nearish future and it will mean I have slightly more money than I otherwise would have done.

As for the book, I say go for it. What is money for, however little, if not for making you happy?

Yay! Then again, I'm one of those people who buys books when I'm having a bad day (like on Wednesday). I really do need to remember that all the books I buy need to be transported home at some point!

Hence why I refrained from picking up a copy of Nation at the train station this morning. (Well, that, and (unlike with the Swann)I can wait and get it some time when I have more money, and am not traveling.)

Also, yay money!

Oh, is that the one that was in the window of the Turl St Oxfam bookshop? It did look rather lovely!

(ETA - sorry, [livejournal.com profile] lareinenoir, this was supposed to be a reply to the original post!)

As I've just said on Twitter, I saw it and thought it should be left for those who are more musical than me. I am glad that the book has found a deserving new guardian.

Obviously you should not go past that shop, as it is too perilous :)

It sounds wonderful. And I sympathise about the taking-books-back from Germany thing - despite spending three years consciously not trying to buy books (hah!) I still ended up having to leave lots behind. It hurt.

OMG, you have that song book?? It was in the university library when I was a music student and my roommate, who was a pianist, and I learned the songs in it and gave a mini recital together. I would kill to have access to that music again; I wish I'd copied the pages!

It's still in print, though not with the jacket on the edition which [livejournal.com profile] tree_and_leaf has bought.

Where can you get it? Amazon?

It seems to be out of print as far as amazon.com is concerned, as they only seem to list resellers, but amazon.co.uk have stock (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Road-Goes-Ever-J-R-R-Tolkien/dp/0007136552).
