Fic rec: Children of Time
Jul. 11th, 2008 08:31 pmHighly recommend
calapine's WIP Children of Time. It's a [spoilery] post JE fix it fic - with lots of actual plot involving Sarah getting involved in an alien plot, Martha being awesome, and Mickey sorting out Torchwood's computer problems.
I think I might have spent too long around academics too long, though, because the following bit of dialogue struck me as totally logical, and not at all like a laughably improvised excuse...
“You want to look inside for a history feature?” says the woman, as though she can’t quite believe what she’s just heard. “You are aware that there was a massive alien invasion yesterday?”
“Yes,” says Sarah brightly, “as a matter of fact I am. But that happened less than forty-eight hours ago, so it’s not quite in the purview of my magazine. We usually like to give events at least a few decades to mature first.”
“Might I enquire as to who you expect to be interested in such a feature, given, well, given that the planet’s recently been invaded, shunted across space, shunted back and hundreds of thousands of humans are dead?”
“Historians,” says Sarah without missing a beat.
I know people like that. I practically am a person like that. Should I be worried?
