Am back in Oxford. It might feel as if I've never been away, but the heaps of boxes are a strong reminder that the reverse is true.

Welcome back! And you have such lovely weather for it, too!

You took the words right out of my mouth. On the other hand, St Giles' fair is so quiet that it doesn't look like I'm going to get to go home early.

Do you get to go home early if it's too loud, then?

It's a bit odd having it after the schools have gone back, actually; normally it's just before.

I do now that I have a civilised boss - last year we all stayed in the office until 4pm, heads pounding, and felt like death. This year I told her what it was like and suggested I work from home if necessary. There is an enormous waltzer-cum-upside-down-claw thing just outside my window, that plays the most awful pounding music, and the sight of which whilst typing gives motion sickness, not to mention the fumes. I had a training session yesterday afternoon, but the office was uninhabitable by half-past 12. Several people have just taken holiday, which I refuse to do because I don't see why I should waste my leave!

Ugh, how unpleasant. Hurrah for sympathetic boss! I'm just pleased that walking half the way to and from work means I don't have to deal with the confusion around the temporary bus stops in Broad Street, although today's weather is hardly conducive to walking.

I had forgotten (have just been reminded by a colleague), the screaming, and the fact that our desks were actually vibrating.

The temporary bus stops are annoying, thoguh at least I am close enough to the Parks for it only to be another 100 yards for me.

Welcome back! Maybe someone should do 'rainy Oxford' postcards.

Glad you like it! It was made by [livejournal.com profile] grace_poppy, and as far as I know is free for the taking.

(I like your pheasant too, by the way)

Thank you! They are possibly my favourite "British" bird - seeing one stalk out of the undergrowth is quite an experience!

An even more powerful reminder than the boxes is the straw-haired nobleman proposing to you every April 1st.

Anyway, congratulations on getting back.

BTW, who are the medievalists at Oriel? A colleague of mine has been looking at Oxford.
