A pedant writes: well, he's a junior minister rather than a Cabinet one, but still...

I can't think of a crazier resignation. In the eighteenth century they tended just to hang on and didn't have the musical chairs of today.

Part of me feels a bit sanctimonious for his determionation to have fun rather than be a public servant, but this is up against the "well, I'd forgive him a lot for PowderJect" (which I first saw in a very early stage of development on Blue Peter), and a "do you want him in govt. if his heart's not in it anyway".

But it is certainly going to take some beating as a reason.

Good heavens. Does this mean he'll appear on the next season of Top Gear?

With a seat in the House of Lords, a biotechnology fortune in the bank and good sight in just one eye

Wait. That last thing seems relevant to racecar driving, in a "but then he SHOULDN'T" way. :D
