One of the things I was trying to do this Lent, and haven't really done anything about till now, was to try to do something about my plastic footprint. However, this afternoon I have signed up for milk deliveries, in glass.

I've never had to worry about remembering to cancel the milk when I go on holiday before....

How exciting! I have just got a shampoo bar - we'll see how it goes.

I've got a conditioner bar that you stir up in hot water once you've got it home to create the usual liquid stuff. I'm not completely sure about it as a conditioner, but I love the melting it down and rebottling. Science!

I bought us all shampoo bars that come in little tins for Christmas - from Soul&Soap in Cornwall. I'm really pleased with mine and how long it's lasted. They let you buy the bars without the tin too so you can re-use that.

Cancelling is terrible. I get a pint on Mondays and Fridays, which is enough for the household and my very kind elderly neighbour has twice taken it in for me on a Friday when I've gone away and forgotten.

Mine is plastic bottles though. But we do recycle them here and it comes from a local farm and I think it's important to support independent dairies.

We've been doing that for several years now, and find that the convenience factor of magically appearing milk is worth the occasional inconvenience of having to stop it. (We get a veg box for very similar reasons!)

My problem is cabbages at the moment but I imagine your household as a whole would be more inclined to eat them than mine is! Mine, which is a veg grower in the next village, does lets me specify things I don't like but I have restricted this to No Courgettes so as not to be overly fussy.

That sounds glorious. Shame the dairy down the road can't do that.

There is a milkman who delivers to a few streets away from me, but not to mine, and I really want them to deliver to mine! This does make me think that maybe I should email them and ask if they have plans to.

My plastic consumption has dropped significantly since a zero-waste shop opened around the corner. There is also another one which does food items (my closest one doesn't, alas) but it is the other side of town and thus far I have been too lazy to go. Sometimes being reliant on shank's pony/public transport is slightly inconvenient.

We got milk from the milkman for my entire life and whilst my current house and its location has much to be happy about, the lack of milkman was disconcerting. There was a brief period when we'd just moved to the Isle of Wight that we didn't have one, because he delivered after we'd all left the house and that was useless. And also very bizarre.
