Ridiculous nitpick that nevertheless bugged the crap out of me: You can't get a voice signal, but you can beam people between ships? Uh hu. (My viewing partner got past that, but tripped up on someone mentioning tribbles when starfleet hasn't encountered tribbles yet in the classic trek timeline)
I... don't think it has quite hit it's stride. It felt a bit bitty, and like it was trying too hard (I *adore* Tilly - that was "turned up to 11" fanfic Tilly, IMO) and I have a gut-level "do not want" to Pike for captain. It's still better than a ton of other TV, but we did switch over to watch Orville straight after.
(Apologies for the drive by, but, I have feelings about this, apparently.)
I really enjoyed it once I got past the "oh so we're only mentioning some of the things that happened last season then, okay". I really liked Trying To Be Liked Cool Stepdad Pike and was oddly satisfied that square-headed science bro didn't last very long.
I think this season will probably have the same pacing issues as the last, but I love Tilly and I want to hug Stamets a lot and Detner and Owosekun are great.
No, I don't think that's an actual pothole, though - Enterprise was having trouble broadcasting a signal because their power and computer was fried, but that doesn't mean that Discover couldn't lock on to someone and beam out, does it?
I agree that it felt a bit bitty, but I thought it began to come together once they left to look for the signal.
(We know the Discovery team have seen a tribble, though - Lorca had one. But I can't remember who mentioned the tribble. Tilly?)
Yeah, I liked Pike, and I didn't expect to! He is very ingratiating step-daddy, though. I was expecting the redshirt to die, so I was relieved it was Science Bro who was killed off.
Stamets! And I'm really pleased Detner and Oweksun are getting more to do. And was that the first time the android-looking character whose name I have forgotten* had a line?
You're probably right about the pacing issues - I think we've got a glimpse of them already, to be honest - but I enjoyed it all the same!
I liked it, but too early to take a view on how the series will pan out. I had the impression they might give us more comedic moments than in s1. Agree that the secondary characters beginning to develop a bit is a plus.

Drive-bys always welcome!

* I keep thinking of them as The Stig.
