I have now caught up on ST:DISCO, as I feel that - thanks to that rather ill-judged jogging wear - I now ought to call it.*

I have feels! But not many thoughts!

Mostly, I am SO GLAD that they haven't killed off Admiral Cromwell, because if they'd killed another female character, I would have been most displeased. Also, I would have missed her. She has terrible professional boundaries (not just the sex), but she is still more likeable than virtually every Starfleet admiral we have ever seen (though I always had a soft spot for Nechayev).

Also, what is it with Starfleet and Scotch? (Did anyone get a proper look at the bottle?)

My husband described Lorca as "What happens if you mashed up Jim Kirk and Col Jessup", and now I can't unseen it, though I hope we will not get Lorca bellowing "YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!!" at someone (Saru?) as a climax to the season.

I continue to find myself unexpectedly liking Stamets, though I hope he's not going to get increasingly stoner on us. ("Groovy"? Really?) Tilly is a joy.

Sarek continues to be a lousy father, and I'm confused about the timeline. I had thought that the fact Spock never mentioned an adopted sister could be Watsonianally(?) explained by him having left home in a huff before all this kicked off, but he's definitely younger than Michael, which, on reflection, I think makes sense. Of course, Spock is (a) pathologically uncommunicative about his family and (b) is possibly a combination of embarrassed and resentful about the whole thing, so perhaps it doesn't need an explanation, but still.

Having seen the trailer for "The Death of Stalin" earlier in the day, I found myself mentally trying to imagine Lorca as a Yorkshireman. It was surprisingly easy. For someone who often plays the same sort of character (with obvious exceptions), Jason Isaacs is a remarkably versatile actor, and he's very good at accents.

*Well, it's better than STD.

ETA: Why can't I find any ST: DISCO icons? Am I going to have to make my own? I've never been particularly good at that....

I am terribly fond of Admiral Kat, but feel that she and Lorca are a demonstration for why sometimes, shagging is the least of the Fleet's fraternisation worries.

It is. I wonder if the idea is meant to be Lorca is (at the moment) bascially ok as long as he keeps in strictly professional mood, which he is able to do most of the time by keeping his crew at a distance (despite adopting strays right, left and centre), but that he's not ok (he's really not ok) and that will increasingly bleed into his 'professional' life.

Right? I feel like it's maybe a good thing she's no longer a practising psychiatrist!

(I LOVE HER. Probably for reasons which rhyme with "smathryn maneway", but I really am a sucker for their whole dynamic.)

I think she's only evaluating him because she isn't, as anyone who was would go "hahahaha unethical NO."

I LOVE HER SO MUCH. I HOPE SHE LIVES.

Spock never mentioned his brother until he absolutely had to. He never mentioned his parents until he absolutely had to. He's clearly the next best thing to being absolutely estranged, and I don't blame him.

He didn't mention his parents when they were standing right in front of him! In "Journey to Babel", Kirk's like, "Hey, while we're on Vulcan, you wanna drop down and see your folks?" And only then Spock admits that his parents are Sarek and Amanda.

(Vulcans, man. It's probably good we have Tuvok to prove that functional, healthy Vulcan relationships really do exist.)

Oh my gosh, I hope you like it! I'm not a big TOS fan, but "Journey" is one of my favourites.

(My actual favourite is "The Enterprise Incident", an episode so perfect that I, who rarely rewatch things, have seen it twice this year.)

I am blinking at the tech levels.

(Especially now I have seen something pointing out that Tilly and Kirk are contemporaries.)

I think there was some mention of the scotch bottle being a bit of an Easter Egg for DS9 viewers - I think it's the same scotch that Miles and Julian drink at some point.

I'm enjoying it very much; a long game is being played with the characters, but there are signs of a scheme which I hope will be followed. I find Lorca sympathetic and see his point of view, however morally confused, it's consistent.
