Why is it, that although the Mac appears to do all sorts of weird, wonderful and useless special characters (little cartoony planes not excluded), I can't find the slashed v's used to indicate the versicle in prayer books and missals.
Bah.
Bah.
It's also a small world in cyberspace, apparently...
Date: 2006-02-05 11:15 pm (UTC)Anyway, I spotted your username in a comments thread to some Doctor Who fanfiction and just clicked on it in search for your journal and your profile because I was intrigued by the choice of "Tree and Leaf".
Then I had a look at your info page and thought: "How nice! A student of German who's interested in shiny things like Tolkien, Doctor Who, D.L.Sayers and Patrick O'Brian and who seems to be studying in Oxford."
And I then I thought a bit harder and asked myself the question: "How many people can there possibly be who are studying medieval German at the University of Oxford, have this kind of fannish interests but also a very strong interest in liturgy and theology?"
Sorry, this probably doesn't make much sense so far, as I shouldn't be posting anything past midnight.
So, in brief, I think we have already met in real life, but I'm simply too paranoid to plaster my actual name (or yours) all over Livejournal.
Are you a resident of Oriel College? And are you from Scotland originally?
If so, then you should probably realize who I am if I tell you that we met at TolkSoc meetings last year, while I was a visiting student from Germany in Oxford.
And I have a bit of a guilty conscience because I never wrote to you or any of the Taruithorn people, apart from sending Christmas e-cards... :(
But I'm putting you on my f-list right now. If you'd like to, you may friend me back if the frivolity and randomness of my journal aren't too off-putting for you.:)
And if you should be a complete stranger after all, I apologize, of course, for spamming your journal with stalkerish-sounding attempts to get in touch.

Funny: this is the second time I have been recognised on LJ in two days. Damnit, I always knew I'd make a rubbish double agent!
Will friend you back momentarily.
