Jan. 25th, 2006 04:05 pmThe Dante's Inferno Test has sent you to Purgatory!
Here is how you matched up against all the levels:
Take the Dante's Inferno Test
Of course, this is dafter than most of the personality type quizzes, because on the orthodox Catholic model, if you are die a penitent Christian then you ought to go to Purgatory whatever you've done (unless, of course, you are a saint and a candidate for instant heaven). I don't think it asked any Christianity-specific questions, either, so on that basis Vergil really ought to be in heaven (Poor Vergil!)
I also think I come out too virtuous sounding on this, though not in a very attractive way... Maybe I should have been more lustful. It's the most cuddly of the sins....
Here is how you matched up against all the levels:
| Level | Score |
|---|---|
| Purgatory (Repenting Believers) | Extreme |
| Level 1 - Limbo (Virtuous Non-Believers) | High |
| Level 2 (Lustful) | Low |
| Level 3 (Gluttonous) | Very Low |
| Level 4 (Prodigal and Avaricious) | Very Low |
| Level 5 (Wrathful and Gloomy) | Low |
| Level 6 - The City of Dis (Heretics) | Very Low |
| Level 7 (Violent) | Low |
| Level 8- the Malebolge (Fraudulent, Malicious, Panderers) | Low |
| Level 9 - Cocytus (Treacherous) | Very Low |

The sex questions were pretty odd, too: I'm not sure why oral and anal sex get bracketed together, since Dante does not mention oral sex IIRC (and I can't think of any mentions of oral sex in the mediaeval period). Anal sex, of course, ought to put one in Malbowges with the sodomites (there is no distiction, I believe, between whether it is done with a chap or a woman in the mediaeval conception of the term)
... Sorry; I once had to give a paper on mediaeval attitudes to homosexuality; very interesting topic, though you have to wade through a lot of rather poisonous sermons..

Date: 2006-01-25 10:25 pm (UTC)there was also no distinction between oral and anal sex (cf. the American military's old definition), which might be why they're mentioned together.

oh! The definition hasn't actually changed. It still includes oral sex and apparently beastiality. (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=sodomy)

Of course, there is a theory that the crime of the men of Sodom was nothing to do with sex, but that's a whole other question...
