Nov. 22nd, 2009 04:44 pmI found my cap! Hurrah!
tree_and_leaf: Look, I found my cap! Now I can look vaguely and disturbingly like Thomas More.
Lawyer: No, you just look really clerical in an old fashioned sort of way. [Pause]. Why don't they let men wear soft caps? I'd have worn one!
Am in train to Oxford; thanks for the good wishes.
I had quite a good morning, in the end; as
morganmuffle knows too well, I was flailing about before the choral Eucharist (in which I wasn't supposed to be serving, but someone was ill, so Lawyer pounced on me with an anxious inquiry as to the colour of my socks, though since I was actually wearing boots, it was a moot point); but once we actually got to the Consecration I achieved a strange sort of calm which I have not entirely lost yet. Yay for the Blessed Sacrament. I even coped reasonably well with Theological Canon's attempts to wind me up by claiming that all Oxford D.Phil. German vivas are in German, or at least I merely smiled mostly sweetly and said "Eigentlich wäre mir dass scheißegal."†
"Did you just swear at him?" said Ana, sounding startled.
"I hope so," said Precentor, "he deserved it."
This is a very incoherent post, I suspect, but never mind...
Roughly: "Actually, I wouldn't give a damn."
