I keep thinking I would like to watch some fanvids, because I can see how there's great potential there for saying funny or clever things about (media) sources, but I have no idea where to start. Luckily, I have a flist...

So: does anyone have recs for brilliant vids? You know my fandoms, more or less (and if you don't, my interests reveal them).

My recs are here:

Hopefully you'll be able to find something of interest. There's a lot of deep critical thinking going on in fandom via the medium of vids. Fun as well!

Hie thee to [livejournal.com profile] di_br's journal! She's JUST posted a vid for a fandom I don't even know the first thing about (Legend of the Seeker) and it made me want to watch it. Badly.

She's also got DOCTOR WHO and NARNIA videos, plus a bunch of other fandoms (her HOUSE vids are my favorite).

Watch "Handlebars" (DOCTOR WHO, Ten) first. It is the most chillingly awesome thing.

I posted about a handful of my favourite vids here, though the post's a couple of years old now! Most of the ones I've seen over the last few years have been Stargate: Atlantis, though, and I don't know how accessible they'd be...

[livejournal.com profile] lim makes some really smart vids. They don't all work for me - at least partly, I suspect, because I don't have the visual skills to watch them properly. But she's certainly one of the people who is really on the cutting edge of what LJ media fandom is doing with vidding. Luminosity ([livejournal.com profile] sockkpuppett) is someone who has received a certain amount of attention from outside the vidding world - her 300 vid "Vogue" was featured in the New York Magazine along with an interview. Her vids are up at her own website - I liked "Vogue", and "Women's Work" was a really thinky vid that had a lot of attention at the time it was posted (and afterwards!).

For more recs... I could certainly point you at more SGA vids, if you're willing to deal with it being a fandom you're not in *g*. There's also the ever-hilarious [livejournal.com profile] strangefandom, which is a comm dedicated to making groups of people watch videos for fandoms they don't know and describe the original canon based on the vids *g*. Besides being often hysterically funny, it has a few vids for all sorts of fandoms, so you can get an idea of what's out there.

Aaaaaand finally... [livejournal.com profile] thefourthvine is totally my favourite reccer ever, due to her total madness, and she has all sorts of vids in her rec posts. I'm sure there's some DW vids in there, as well as everything else - and I've watched vids in all sorts of random fandoms because she made them sound entertaining! They usually are, too.

None of this is really specific vids, because I'm not sure we overlap enough in fandom terms for that to work. But most of the recs I've pointed to will give you a good idea of what the vids are like, are about, so you have some more information to pick with?
