He did - as you probably know, but just in case - play Albert Campion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Campion_(TV_series)) for a couple of seasons, and the results (at least in the ep I saw) were splendid.
Not sure if he'd have the overall presence to play Lord Peter, but I wouldn't at all mind seeing him try.
