Dec. 1st, 2008 11:02 amThe mp3 found poetry meme. It doesn't really work, it seems:
Put your MP3 player on shuffle, and write down the first line of the first twenty songs. Post the poem that results. The first line of the twenty-first is the title.
Softhu únga ástin mín.
Dream, dream, dream, dream, dream.
When I die, and they lay me to rest.
Many men have loved the bells.
I can see the planets are aligning for me.
It’s a still life water colour, on a now-late afternoon,
If I could make a wish, I think I’d pass.
This time of endless night
I’m going to tell a story, and it’s sad but true:
If it hadn’t been for Cotton-Eyed Joe,
Giant steps are what you take
Oh I can’t forget this evening,
The Angel Gabriel from heaven came,
Three Kings from Persian Lands afar,
Gaudete, Gaudete, Christus est natus!
Ho ho ho to the bottle I go,
You get a shiver in the dark.
Softhu únga ástin mín (Islandica. No idea: my Old Norse has crawled away to the back of my brain and died, it seems)
All I have to do is dream (Everly Brothers)
Spirit in the Sky, Norman Greenbaum
Take this Longing from my tongue (Leonard Cohen)
Planets (Kate Rusby)
The Dangling Conversation (Simon and Garfunkel)
The Air That I Breathe (The Hollies)
Rise in the Sringtime (Lavender Diamond)
Runaround Sue (Status Quo)
Cotton-Eyed Joe (duh!) (The Chieftains)
Walking on the Moon (The Police)
Without You (Nilson)
Gabriel’s Message, Choir of Clare College Cambridge (Most highly favoured lady!)
The Three Kings (Finzi)
Gaudete (Steel-Eye Span)
A Drinking Song (Tolkien Ensemble)
Sultans of Swing (Dire Straits)
At Jacob's Well, a Stranger Sought
I wish I knew how it would feel to be free
All these many years I've loved you.
And did those feet in ancient times
Well I'm accustomed to a smooth ride.
My days are gliding swiftly by
Ave Maria, gratia plena
Hail smiling morn!
Out on the street I was talking to a man,
Well I've tried to tell her
The bottle-nosed whale is a furlong long
From Hank to Hendrix, I walk the streets with you
It's four in the morning, the end of December
Here, where the daylight begins
I can feel a new expression on my face
Far away, far away, child,
There was a boy, a bitter boy.
I wish I knew how it would feel to be free (Nina Simone)
Oh so many years (The Everly Brothers)
Jerusalem (Brighton Festival SO and Chorus)
The Obvious Child (Paul Simon)
The Shining Shore (Anonymous 4)
Ave Maria (Gounod) (Leyontene Price, Herbert v Karajan and the Vienna Phil)
Hail smiling morn! (Coope, Boyes and Simpson)
Get it right next time (Gerry Rafferty)
Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic (The Police)
The Whale (Flanders and Swann)
From Hank to Hendrix (Neil Young)
Famous Blue Raincoat (Leonard Cohen)
Harbor, (Vienna Teng)
Everytime you walk in the Room (Status Quo)
Pirate Ships (The Cure)
The Bitter Boy (Kate Rusby)
Jacob's Well (Coope, Boyes and Simpson)
