Heh, I quoted L.Cohen in a sermon last year (different bit though, I suspect).

Is that trendy? He's pretty old by now. He's practically stuffy old classical music.

I tried to have a discussion with my partner last week about the respective standings of Cohen and Dylan as theologians (unsurprising summary: Cohen better), but it was one of those conversations where I just rambled on and got vague polite noises in return.

Not any of the ones you might expect. I was preaching on the Bread of Life passage in John, and part of my set-up was talking about how all politics is, in some sense, about how food is distributed, and the best concise summary of that I could find was the line in 'Democracy' about "the homicidal bitchin'/that goes down in every kitchen/to determine who will serve and who will eat".

Some of my unchurchy friends who came were particularly amazed that I was allowed to say "bitchin'" ...
