  • 22:33 If I was a fanvidder, I think the Waterboys "The Whole of the Moon" would make a good Remus/ Tonks vid. Great song, anyway. #
  • 10:25 Why do I never run into my supervisor when I'm working? (Of course, this cuts both ways...) #
  • 11:26 Making Light has just introduced me to Pentecostalist 'spiritual warfare'. I hate being forced to mutter 'anathema sit...' Back to work.... #
  • 13:07 My favourite scarf just turned up! Yay! #
  • 14:12 The Lower RR is remarkably warm today. Also, my ability to cope with Latin scribal abbrvs. has died. #
  • 15:31 Also, I think I'm coming down with something.... #
  • 19:09 Forgot umbrella. Just back from seminar about Virgin of Mercy iconography (BVM sheltering souls under her cloak). Wish I cd. borrow it... #

It's a fascinating insight into the (rather too big for most sane people's liking) religious radical (to be polite) fringe in the US, though. I'm reminded a little of the pastor who introduced John McCain the other week by saying that Hindus, Muslims and Buddhists would be voting for Barack Obama, and this is where you get to if you travel along that road.

Sad but true, it's one of those things you have to understand to understand American (cultural) politics.

I don't look at Making Light as much as I perhaps might, partly because it throws up extremes of lunacy like this one from time to time which I don't always have the energy to digest...

...it reminds me of medieval Christendom's attitude to Islam, and the anti-trinity it was believed the Mohammedans worshipped. All non-Christian faiths - and the larger Christian denominations, if one is following Hislop (whom I'd not heard of before - it was a blessing...) - are thus just aspects of Satanism and as good as interchangeable from the point of view of the self-justified righteous.

Oh no, some Anglicans do practice spiritual warfare (that is Anglican in the strict technical sense of attendees at an Anglican church). I have met them in various places (but rather wish I hadn't).

Others of us just assume that should there be any evil spirits around, the incense will keep them away (it works on bats, after all). If not, a bucketful of holy water should do the trick, leaving plenty of time for further study of the port list at the White Hart after Vespers.
