I think inclusion depends on the length of the extracts. My feeling is that handouts are a better place for longer quotations, as the handouts can be taken away and the quotations digested at length. I am not sure that long sections of text have very much impact on Powerpoint, though short ones can have.

Speaking for me, personally, I just hate it when my handout has exactly the same things on it as are on the PP presentation. So anything that introduces some variety into the two media is a Good Thing as far as I'm concerned.

I said no, then thought that the only possible exception might be if the room will be so very dark that no one can read the handout! But let's hope that won't be an issue.
