I've just realised that I really could have been sure that Percy Weasley would come back to his family and the side of the light. It's all in the name... Percy > Percival, the 'pure fool' who fouls up his life (mostly through over-exact following of instructions and unwillingness to listen to his heart) and rebels against God, but is brought to his senses in the end; and Ignatius. As in Ignatius 'give me a child until the age of seven' Loyola, and sure enough, Percy returned to his family in the end. (I've been thinking about Percy's name different, fic related reasons, and then this suddenly hit me.)

And, of course, one of Dumbledore's names is Percival. Hmm...

Well said. Very well said. And people think 'Brian' is there for comedy value. (Though it was rather amusing in the OotP film...)

Narcissa Malfoy. Somehow I imagine she fancied Lucius the first time she clapped eyes on him, and will be there for him even to her own detriment. I've done some tongue-biting re: arranged marriages, frosty loathing assuaged by status etc.

Apparently there's a remark by Mad-Eye about Doge wearing a silly hat. This lovely fact I got from Mugglenet, which may well spew utter nonsense about some names, I've not had a good read-through:

Oh, Narcissa is clearly very much in love;come to that, I think Lucius is too. (I suspect that the fact that the Malfoys, horrid though they are in other respects, genuinely love each other, is the reason they survive the book - actually, in plot terms it is, because Narcissa helps Harry because of Draco).

It just occurs to me that Perceval caused his mother's death because of his ambition to be a knight, which is sort of appropriate both to the terrible effects Dumbledore's ambition inadvertantly has on his family, and Percy's desire to be a success in the ministry, which is what gets him into trouble inthe first place.

I just glanced at the Mugglenet list too; what I saw looks OK, although they're wrong - or rather incomplete - about Bagmen, since in Scots a bagman is just a commercial traveller (cf. Mr Standfast) and generally not working for the mob...

IIRC, the Mad-Eye remark is when he's showing Harry the Order photo, and says 'I'd forgotten Elphias Doge used to wear that stupid hat.' I think Doge is described as wearing a hat that falls off in his excitement when he meets Harry in PS, but it's a long time since I read that bit.

This clearly means that Percy is actually Dumbledore's secret lovechild from his passionate affair with Grindelwald. Isn't it obvious?

He certainly went deaf towards the end of his life - I'm not sure if it was in one ear or both.

Thanks. Also, isn't it also true that George III wasn't supposed to have been king at all, but moved up the succession with the death of Prince Frederick (Fred)?
