I'm quite fond of Gwyneth Jones as Elsa (as in this highlights recording: http://www.musicabona.com/catalog/469682-2.html.en

Haven't come across the pirate, but it sounds intriguing...

'Quite fond of' and 'Gwyneth Jones' are two things which I rarely put together, although I can understand why some people do. I think I've been scarred for life by the double whammy of the Boulez Ring (where she gets up to a minor third wobble by the end) and this Vier Letzte Lieder that is first-rate party record. :)

I tend to stick with Kempe because Kempe is so good at clean and transparent textures. I'll even put up with Fi-Di for that.
