Incidentally, I am exceedingly pissed off that ECUSA has been chucked off the Inter-Anglican Standing Committee on Unity Faith and Order, when Southern Cone, Nigeria, etc haven't (yet, anyway), whereas I am inclined to think that even if you don't accept homosexual bishops, interfering in the affairs of other provinces is a much more egregious breach of what it means to be Anglican, and if you're going to insist on applying sanctions in the interests of preserving unity, you should at least apply them equally.

This is not, I suspect, what ++Rowan envisaged, but I am inclined to think he should have anticipated it.

Wasn't there also a threat to throw the ECUSA off the committee on doctrine? Which would have the amusing effect of "You don't agree with us on doctrine, therefore you shall have no right to influence it."

+-Rowan should know better. And if he's going to enforce doctrine and governance, there are a lot of other places he could look, such as at the African bishop who has been poaching in the US.

If things get much worse, I'm going to seek alternative episcopal oversight from Los Angeles.

(Except I won't, because I actually believe in catholic order, unlike some alleged traditionalists I could mention).

The worst of it is, I don't for a moment think he is, personally. He used to be good friends with Jeffrey John, before the shit hit the fan in Reading. But in some ways that makes it worse.

In some ways, I like ++Rowan a lot. He's a very good preacher and a fine theologian, but he is not suited to a big political job, which this is.

If I go, I'll go to the Society of Friends. The trouble is, a) they don't sing, or at least, not well; and b) I go to the sort of church that would seek alternative episcopal oversight from Los Angeles, if that wasn't such poor form. Perhaps I shall harangue the Rector about it.
