This is interesting: Brigitte (the biggest selling German women's magazine) is stopping using professional models, supposedly because they want to use more averagely proportioned women. Critics suggest this is a cost cutting exercise; I suppose we'll have to see what the results are once the change takes effect, and what range of women they actually use, but it will be interesting to see how readers respond.

(I like Brigitte. It may not be the most feminist of German magazines - that's Emma - and it may have a certain tendency to aspirational Niceness, but they have some very witty columnists, and they've done some interesting reportage on women's issues in the broadest sense).

Also: another interesting grauniad article, on a day in the life of the Probation Service.

Hm. Interesting. But strange... I'd think that modeling would have some requirements other than being a certain body type, and there must be average-size models -- the models in the plus-size catalogues seem to be about (German) size 42. I am curious where this is going.
