In which tree_and_leaf's brain is eaten by the heat

Augh. Do not cope well with hot weather (yesterday was OK, because I was on church watching duty, and thus had a perfectly legitimate excuse to spend all afternoon lurking in a lovely cool mediaeval building - and it's nice to see how many people actually do drop in to pray or sit quietly.)

However, this afternoon I spent half an hour looking for my keys, becoming increasingly sure I'd dropped them in the street, and finally found them in a dark corner at the top of the landing.

On the other hand, I am still doing better than the local council, who have inexplicably gritted the road outside my house. You know, in preparation for the icy, snowy blizzard we are about to have (I wish). Why they couldn't have done this during the actual snow we had back in February will probably forever remain a mystery....

It's quite possible that the gravel will be to bed into any tar that melts up from the road surface. Thus preventing sticky road problems, and resurfacing, all in one. This tells you approximately how hot they think it will be.

According to today's Times, roads are melting; one man got a foot stuck and had to wait over an hour to be extricated by the fire brigade.

Aaargh! Poor man!

Though I can't help wondering why he didn't just take his shoe off. I'm sure it was ruined either way.....
