  • 23:21 And also wandering into the Bear pub quiz in the middle of the religion round. Which was kind of funny, especially as it was while trying... #
  • 23:22 ... to avoid talking about the church or faith. Does the Hound of Heaven enjoy pub quizzes? #
  • 23:39 @ParrotKnight I hope not. I don't mind him being an atheist, but I could do without being hit over the head (ineptly) with his Jesus issues. #
  • 23:42 Babylon appears to be sold out. Bother. #
  • 23:44 Also, booking fees are an impertinence. #
  • 00:07 @ParrotKnight Well, no ;) #
  • 00:10 ...ought to be sending out invitations for a Burns night thing on Saturday, but is too sleepy.... #
  • 14:47 @pellegrina In fact, you could just leave it at 'being hit over the head ineptly'. #
  • 14:48 *realises she forgot to bring in a couple of things she was supposed to be lending a friend* #
  • 15:40 *fails rather at staying awake* #
  • 15:51 The 'Buoch der Trostung', alas, is not vintage Eckhart. #
  • 16:15 Why has my computer spontaneously decided on the Welsh keyboard layout?...
Actually, it's oddly useful for this kind of MHG (right accents). #
  • 16:38 tinyurl.com/8n8j8m Bishop Alan points out a protest re: new govt surveillance plans. #
  • 20:50 Once again.,, I am sleepy, though that might be to do with the trip to the pub with nineveh_uk followed by a heavy meal. Fun, though. #
  • 20:56 *has upcoming graduate collections* Which will undoubtedly involve being told that my intellect wd be wasted on the church, but hey.... #
  • 21:06 I mean, I'm not exactly convinced that I would find a purely academic career satisfying... #

The atheism of busses?

A bunch of atheists are wasting money putting incredibly lame atheist slogans on the side of public buses in various European towns, including here in London. A sample of their shining wit: "there probably is no God". Whoo wee, am I convinced.

It was apparently sparked by some fairly aggressive evangelical ads, to which I say lol come to the States, we'll show you obnoxious religion.

They have already sparked at least one case of butthurt from an incredibly offended bus driver who couldn't bring himself to drive a bus with the ad on the side, so good for them.

You have the right to be annoyed, of course, but I'm rather in the "suck it up and do your job" camp, it's not like it's a personal endorsement.

Back then, I was just keen to counter the religious ads running on public transport, which featured a URL to a website telling non-Christians they would spend "all eternity in torment in hell", burning in "a lake of fire"., from the originator of the campaign.

I hope they do bring it to the States, it would be a nice contrast.

I like to think of this as a step forward towards parity, that every group gets to be offensive to the other in public. But just the thought of these posters on DART buses in Dallas, and the resulting head explosions that would ensue...oh, that's a good thought for cold nights.

In all seriousness, I do think it is--and in the same vein, feminism is so important because it has made it possible for women to be just as open and consequently make as many of the same mistakes in relationships/dating/the like as men have historically gotten to.

And nobody learns how to walk when stuck on a pedestal of restricted actions.
