I can't imagine why anyone who thought this was genuine would put it up for sale, so...
Meanwhile, the exhumation of Cardinal Newman has recovered no remains. I am rather cheered by this; a Vatican spokeman said this will not affect his cause one way or another; given that it was Newman's expressed wish that he be buried there rather than in the Oratory, I'd have thought that if anything it might be taken as strengthening it.
In other news, I discovered that I was having great difficulty remembering what acolyte 1 does at High Mass, but there were no actual disasters, and it was very good to serve again. I've missed that very much.

Blackadder: How on earth would you know?
Baldrick: You can only get them in boxes of ten.

Date: 2008-10-06 12:10 pm (UTC)I haven't read that specifically attributed to Tatchell, but I have heard it. I assume the Vatican will be going into the matter, but while I don't personally mind one way or the other, I think it's risky to jump to conclusions on such matters. There's certainly a long tradition of monastic 'spiritual friendships' which, while tending to be expressed in language we might think suggestive of a sexual element, were at least in theory not sexual or expressed in a physical manner (which is the only bit older morals would have cared about, of course).
