A fascinating website from UCL
Aug. 31st, 2006 03:47 pmEver wondered where most people with your surname lived (in the UK)? Help is at hand.
http://www.spatial-literacy.org/UCLnames/Surnames.aspx This fascinating, although currently rather slow site shows the concentrations of people of that name in each county in either 1998 or 1881; you can also look at the ethnicity figures for that name.
Mine didn't tell me anything much I didn't know - I have a typically Lancastrian name (no, it's not Longbottom, and that's all I'm saying on this subject), despite the fact that I was born and brought up in Scotland - and the picture reflected that. Although there was a colony of - Not-Longbottoms in Oxfordshire, which explains why I keep being given the wrong books in Bodley.
