I may have no motivation today, and I may be spamming lj with peculiar content - but on the upside, a fellow student I did a small translation for (really small: proof reading two abstracts!) has given me a large and exciting looking box of Swiss pralines.† The day is rescued!

† Who was it said that he had never been so miserable that he would never have been cheered, to a small but nonetheless significant degree, by the offer of a chocolate cream?

Ooh, a quiz! I don't know the answer, but I am reminded of a Just William story in which William is much put upon by a sissy, sneaky cousin. After being outsmarted by - I can't remember his name, but let's say Walter after another famous softy - at a garden party, William stomps off into a summer-house where he meets and confides in a suave young man. The suave young man asks what are Walter's weaknesses, and William replies with a list of his various crimes against healthy romping boyhood. No, no, says SYM, those are vices. What are his weaknesses? His weakness turns out to be chocolate creams, and satisfying revenge is had.

It sounds a bit Pratchettian?

I know that anyone who walked into my office with a chocolate cream would cheer me immensely on almost any occasion.

I do not know, but it does sound familiar (perhaps google will aid me) but I must say I'm glad to hear a counterblast against the general sneering about soft-centres that goes on in books. They are obviously the best sort of chocolates. (Though I can't say I'm a fan of praline - but being paid in chocolate can't be bad)

Googling produces this entry of yours first!

Do you want to know the answer? I'm not sure if you're setting a quiz or asking for suggestions - if the former, I have cheated, if the latter, there is a ref. to it being Bertrand Russell...

And it occurs to me that my choice of icon may have seemed offensive, which wasn't my intention!

The old ones are the best

Happily I have expected chocolate waiting for me at home when I finally leave the office (which will not happen until (a) I have finished these blasted minutes, and (b) I have answered a few emails so everyone knows I'm a martyr). However given that what awaits me is only Cadbury's, I may have to remedy that tomorrow lunchtime, if I get a moment.
