Name one character from any fandom I know and I will give you three facts about them from my personal canon.
Fandoms: Harry Potter, Doctor Who (though I reserve the right to do someone else here; I don't know canon well enough for Doctors 5-8 to be confident of being able to do their companions): I'd also be keen to have a crack at: Star Treks TOS and DS9, Dalziel and Pascoe (book canon only, obviously), Life on Mars, Patrick O'Brian, Swallows and Amazons, Narnia, and John Buchan's Richard Hannay-verse.
ETA: and the Wimsey-verse, of course!

2. She could have passed her A-levels easily, but she got distracted by a crush on - going on obsession with - her chemistry teacher. In later life she was so embarrassed by this that it was easier to tell herself she was just rubbish at science, and a bit of a duffer generally. Her clumsiness helped convince herself of it, and it was only in her time with the Doctor that she began to realise there was more to herself than that.
3. She was profoundly disappointed that Cliff got involved with industry, but when he called her on it, and told her that it was no good spending all your time keeping your hands clean and not trying to actually improve the word around you by working with what you've got, she couldn't think of anything to say. She thought that the Doctor would have seen it differently, but then the Doctor was far too good at walking away. She liked Cliff for being willing to stay.

2 Sometimes she likes Stephen a lot more than she likes Jack, partly because she was never in love with him.
3 It's not been a bad life, but she hopes against hope that her girls will never marry a sailor.

2 John would never have got into the Navy as an officer if it had't been for her ruthless coaching in maths.
3 She was briefly in SOE during the war, and did a fine job, but an injury put paid to that. She's not sure whether she is ashamed of the part of her that was disappointed, or the part that was relieved. She ended up working at Bletchley, thanks to one of her old tutors, who had noticed her affinity for codes and puzzles when he found her devising a new signalling scheme for the use of the first boat...

1. Even when things were rockiest, she never seriously thought about leaving Peter. She's not sure whether this is a good thing, or not.
2. She writes fanfic (yes, I know, practially canon), but would never show it to anyone. No, not even random strangers on the internet ;) She continues to do so even when working on original fic.
3 (In a different universe to my D&P/LoM crossover). She enjoyed Life on Mars, but is rather disturbed by how strongly she is reminded of Peter and Fat Andy. Though it has to be admitted that Andy, though considerably less sexy than Phillip Glennister, is also a lot less bad than Gene...

1 Has really awful taste in whisky. His wife once bought him a bottle of Jura for his birthday. he didn't like it much.
2 His wife is a charming, rather delicate woman, who has led a very sheltered life, and Gene, though he'd never admit it to the team, worships the ground she walks on. She has very little idea of what he's like at work, and Gene would do almost anything to keep the sordid reality of the job from her.
3 If he had gone to Hogwarts, he'd have been a Hufflepuff.

2. She's naturally good at languages, and got a job at the Foreign Office at a secretarial grade. She was very good at her job, and would have had a very sucessful career if she hadn't given it up for marriage and a family.
3. Of all the Walker children, she is the one who looks the most like their mother (I have no idea why I think this, incidentally)

He used to be terrified of speed and motorbikes, but he was determined to overcome it. It's probably part of his need to be in control as possible, within the limits he's been stuck with.
He would like a dog, but he knows better than to push the issue.

1. Was always slightly jealous, even though she loves her, of Lucy, who was always everyone's favourite. The fact that she can see why doesn't make things any better. It would never even have occured to her that Lucy had moments of being jealous of her.
2. Was utterly sick of having to be the responsible, grown-up one. All she wanted was a normal, carefree girlhood, with parties and friends and nice clothes and dancing. She never much cared for young men - the attention was exciting and some of them were charming, but the thought of actually marrying them made her feel trapped and frightened. She wasn't sure why, but it had something to do with a dream she once had, about being trapped in a house in a hot, dusty city.
3. Got to Narnia - the real Narnia - in the end. I'm not sure how, but "once a king or queen in Narnia, always a king or queen in Narnia"

She is incapable of making a cup of drinkable coffee. It started as self-preservation - she had no desire to spend all her time making coffee while men did the interesting work :) - and became a rather perverse point of pride.
The Doctor was brilliant for many reasons, but one of the most important ones was that he saw her primarily as a person, not a woman or, worse still, a girl.
She never wanted to settle down. Why would you, when there were so many fascinating things out there? Even Aberdeen has its charms, if you aren't stuck there for ever. Love's all very well, but not if it turns you into less than what you were before.

Let's go with Phineas Nigellus.

1 He likes trains. The Hogwarts Express was his idea, and very unpopular it was with the Pureblood parents, too.
2 He has nothing against Muggleborns, as long as they integrate into wizarding society. After all, they're no more likely to be stupid or incompetent than Purebloods (he sometimes thinks they tend to have a bit more sense. Probably because they're not overbred).
3 He's beginning to feel a bit uneasy about some of his children's views on blood purity. Yes, marrying a Muggleborn is marrying down for a Black - but so is marrying virtually anyone. He's not entirely sure what will happen to the family when he's no longer around to run things, and he cares a good deal more than he'd willingly admit.
