Ahaha! You've missed Jamie Oliver gassing chicks live on the telly, haven't you? And Hugh Fearlessly-Eatsitall weeping as he wrings the neck of a limping bird? The telly has been an education recently; we all know the importance of bales of hay in chicken sheds, and head-count per square metre - free-range chickens are selling out. Extraordinary.

There's a woman who re-homes battery chickens; 60,000 so far, which would have been killed at the end of their first year otherwise. If she's not knighted in the next honours, there'll be a National Outcry.

No, I had vaguely heard of that. Thank God the Guardian doesn't know about my plan to raise haggi in Third Quad at college....

The old ones are the best! Though I've also heard the clockwise thing about sheep....

I have personally pulled off the free-range clockwise haggis one on a mini-bus of Americans (somehow they wanted to pass on the battered haggis from the chip shop in Girvan). They also asked what a field of oilseed rape was. We told them, "Pineapples. A lot of people think that you can't grow pineapples in Scotland..."

One of the boys was a brilliant improviser. (He's grown up to be the presbtyerian equivalent of a lay preacher, so I'm not sure what that says...)
