You know you've been doing too much theology when your reaction to this poem (as posted by [profile] angevin2 as part of her excellent Advent calendar) is to think, oh God, why is the Western church so crap at teaching the theology of the Trinity?

I think I've been doing too much theology. And I'm only a term in....

THAT WAS MY THOUGHT TOO. But I shut it down because I *like* angsty things in which god is almost too human. :D

Well, for one thing, Western culture is not -- at the moment at least -- very communally-oriented. So I think we're culturally uncomfortable with the idea of a God who is not complete seen in isolation.

One of the things I like most about the doctrine of the Trinity is the unavoidability it brings to the idea that the Godhead is fundamentally relational -- that relatedness is key to what it is to be Whole.
