On 3: yes, he has some Slytherin traits, but on balance I think the Hufflepuff overweighs.

Sam is totally a Gryffindor - actually, in a lot of ways, both good and bad, he reminds me of Hermione.

I'm glad you like 2 - I'm quite convinced of it, and will be very upset if Ashes to Ashes josses it. Actually, I think I might be upset by Ashes to Ashes anyway...
