Am back from wandering around Germany - had a lovely time, though unfortunately I came back to bad news about a close family friend, who has been diagnosed with some sort of intestinal cancer (details seem to have got lost in transition between medical German, ordinary German, and English). The prognosis seems to be better than it might be, but it's still pretty beastly. If you pray, prayers would be appreciated.

I shall never catch up with my flist by conventional means, so if you have posted anything or seen anything recently which you think might interest me, then please leave links...

I have written some Lewis fic - dunno if you watch it or woul dbe nterested (and feel a bit bad pimping my own stuff) but it's here (http://community.livejournal.com/inspector_lewis/13581.html?view=106509) if you're interested.

Thank you - I haven't actually seen any Lewis, despite the fact that they've filmed some scenes in my college (and indeed in my common room) - but I still enjoyed the ficlets. I like fics that deal intelligently with religion.

Hathaway is Lewis' sidekick. He was training to be a priest, but dropped out after ruining a gay friend's life (that's the 'Will' mentioned; he later commits suicide) by telling him (active) homosexuals will be punished by God. Very interesting character, and so ar (only 2 series as yet) they've done quite well in sparing us too much detail so they don't get the religious bits horribly wrong.

I have a weak spot for religious characters, particularly tortured ones.

Not good news to come back to re. your friend - I hope things go well for them (and they can - a family friend of ours who had treatment for intestinal cancer in the course of 2007-08 has come away from it with an "as good as you can possibly get" result - it does happen for some).

Thank you for the encouragement. The doctors seem fairly sure that it's a slow growing and fairly unagressive cancer, which has to be something. I'm glad your friend did so well.
