I came back and read this again after nineveh_uk's crack_van rec, and I enjoyed it even more this time around. I so much love Peter's generosity, not just in choosing the manner of his death (so there's an ounce of hope for his nearest and dearest that it was a terrible accident) but also in refusing to blight Mary and Charles' wedding. The "remarkably funny speech" is just heart-breaking under the circumstances (in the best kind of way).
